Pet Policy

Pet quality animals are rabbits that I have bred that can not be used for show or as breeders, or are rescues. I charge $5 - $40 each.
Pet quality rabbits are sold with a WILL NOT BREED or SHOW contract. The rabbit, if not already spayed/neutered, will have the procedure done at the buyers cost at the vet of the buyers choice before the buyer can take the animal home. I will deliver the rabbit (within San Diego County plus gas) to the vet’s office and you may pick up your animal after the procedure is finished. Pet quality is always sold WITHOUT a pedigree.
Brood and Show Policy

Brood and show quality rabbits are sold for $75 - $200 depending on wins, mane quality, type, and personality. I will hold a JR for up to 8 weeks of age with a non-refundable deposit for 50% of the cost of the rabbit. Juniors will not go home before 8 weeks of age. I will only hold a rabbit for up to 10 weeks of age with full payment. After the 12 weeks are up you must either have arrangements to receive your rabbit, or come pick it up. If you have not done so the rabbit will go back up for sale and 50% of your full payment will be returned to you in the form of a personal check via the post office.

I do require a deposit to put a hold on a rabbit. This is to guarantee to both you and myself that you are serious about the animal. The deposit in most cases is non-refundable. However I will refund monies to breeders under special circumstances. I do have a contract for the Buyer and myself to sign before I will release any rabbit to its new owner.
The rabbitry of origin will be kept on any pedigreed rabbit that has come from this rabbitry. It’s a shame that I even have to mention this but there are breeders out there, reputable and not, that change rabbitry names on pedigrees to make themselves, and /or their rabbits look better. Legal action will be sought if this takes place!
Shipping

Shipping is available as the weather permits with the airline of your choice plus the cost of the crate and gas to the airport from my house. (65 miles x going rate of gas in San Diego)

Discounts

I do offer multiple rabbit discounts on a single purchase of over 3 rabbits.
I also offer discounts for FFA and 4-h kids with proof of enrolment and participation.

Explanation of F1, F2, and F3 generations
In rabbits

F1- an F1 Lionhead is a rabbit that is a hybrid or not purebred animal. F1 in Lionheads are a first generation cross between a manned Lionhead (represented by Mm or MM) and a non-manned rabbit (no mane gene).
F2- A F2 Lionhead is a second generation Lionhead rabbit. It is the offspring of an F1 and either an F2 or Purebred Lionhead.*
F3- A F3 Lionhead is a third generation Lionhead rabbit. It is the offspring of a F2 and either an F3 or a purebred Lionhead. *
F4- F4 in rabbits is considered a purebred rabbit. To get a purebred in any breed it must be the offspring of an F3 bred to a purebred rabbit. For a Lionheads it is crucial that the mane gene be passed on in all breedings of the offspring that are used.
*Note that if a Lionhead is born without a mane it should not be bred as it does not carry the mane gene. The mane gene can only be passed on to the offspring if the Dam and/or Sire carry it. Rabbits, who have manes as JR.s but then lose their manes as adults, can be used in some circumstances. Please refer to the ARBA Standard and talk with experienced breeders if you are considering breeding.
I do not bred hybrids. I only buy and breed purebred Lionheads.
Welcome to Shining Wizard Rabbitry’s official home on the Internet!
The rabbitry is run by Shannon Marcum. It is home based in the foothills of San Diego.

I breed Lionhead rabbits for show, breeding, and pet. I have three separate lines that I am currently working on. I have my two main lines that are made up the harlequin in the colors of fawn and black Japanese Harlequins, and Sable Magpies. I also have a COD line. The COD color that I have chosen to concentrate on is Sable Point.

My goal for my rabbits is to breed to the ARBA standard. While Harlies are not a COD color for the Lionhead, I do hope someday that they will be accepted in show. My rabbits are bred for disposition, correct bodies and ears, and life long manes.

If you are interested in any of the rabbits I have please feel free to email me. I am always looking for other serious breeders on the west coast that are looking to improve their lines. I do provide stud and brood service with some of my rabbits.

I also provide top quality snake food, and meat for animal owners who feed B.A.R.F, or for large animal rescues. Please email me if you are interested in feed.
